There’s always something going on in Tokyo. Today I’d like to introduce you to Tokyo’s hot topic of the moment and one of my favorites: Gundam!
When you were a child, did you ever wish an animated character were real? This summer, this dream came true for children of all ages in Tokyo. Gundam, a combat robot from a popular Japanese TV animated series, was recreated as an 18 meter tall life-size model, towering over Odaiba, the large man-made island in Tokyo Bay.
The model was built to celebrate Gundam’s 30th birthday, giving men in their 30s and 40s who used to love Gundam a chance to reminisce about their childhood excitement.
When I visited last weekend, there were hundreds of onlookers admiring the realistic model, complete with illuminated eyes and smoke effects.
Unfortunately Gundam only stuck around until the end of August, but I hope he will one day return to earth.
