Today was a perfect day for picnic. We went to Shinjuku Gyoen National Park, located nearby the hustle and bustle of central Shinjuku. At the beginning of April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, this garden is crowded with people enjoying the flowers. Like Hyde Park or Central Park, many Tokyoites enjoy walking and having a picnic on the grass.
With just a sheet and drinks, we dropped by Isetan department store to buy lunch. The food hall in the basement is a food lover’s paradise, with a large variety of food from delis to confectionery and breads. The shop staff usually gives us chopsticks, so you can go without bringing anything. (If not, you can request them.) Today our choice was beautifully arranged roll sushi and Japanese-style bento boxes. It was great!
Eating outside is fun. It sharpens your appetite, gives you a chance to relax, and gives you a good excuse to try an interesting new food!
