Where is the front?

In Japan, many kiosks and vending machines are located on station platforms.  Some shops sell newspapers and others sell bento. This shop, selling snacks, drinks and bento boxes, is located on a platform in Shinjuku station which is used by around 3.5 million passengers everyday.  Passengers going on a trip by long-distance train buy bento to eat on the train.

What’s interesting about this shop is the wall behind the shop, decorated with a full-sized, life-like photo of the storefront! Thanks to this photo, we can easily spot where to buy our bento no matter where we are on the platform.  Even if we approach from behind the shop, we’re assured it’s not a newsstand.

Don’t you think it’s a clever ad?
