The café is a quaint building with comfortable atmosphere and good coffee. I wish I had such a lovely café in my neighborhood. Gallery ef is not only a café & bar but a gallery located in Asakusa, one of the most popular touristic areas in Tokyo.
I visited Asakusa to enjoy cherry blossoms in full broom along the Sumida River. Many people gathered along the river to enjoy seeing cherry blossoms and having a party. It was really beautiful.
I got away from the crowds and headed to Gallery ef. In spite of its location, Gallery ef is not a touristic place. As soon as I entered the café, it made me forgot the chaos of the city. This is no wonder, since this building was originally built in 1868 as a storehouse and come through disastrous earthquakes and air raids, and now exists as a café. I can’t help but feel its weight of history.
I ordered cake set (750yen), a cup of coffee and today’s cake. The coffee beans are ground just before brewing.
After enjoyed coffee, I stepped into the gallery from the small entrance located behind the café. Even if you don’t have any great interest in art, the space designated as a tangible cultural asset is worth visiting. Let’s see how Japan’s historic building blended
with art over a cup of coffee.
